What I DId On My Summer Vacation

Sorry for the huge gap in posts. I forgot to mention I was going on vacation. Well, I'm back! Portland, Seattle, and 2 nights camping in Southern Oregon. All in 9 days. All with the intention of eating as much good food as possible. Here are some highlights...

Gearing up for the long drive ahead with a piece of Beecher's© Flagship cheese.

Double Double (Animal Style)
French Fries (also Animal Style)

I know fast food isn't most people's idea of fine dining but I've loved In N Out Burger since I was a child and the nearest one is so far away... we just had to stop. Animal Style!

The first night. Camping on the Wood River in Southern Oregon. Beef Flavored Top Ramen tastes so much better when you're camping.

Fried Catfish
Macaroni & Cheese
NOLA Red Beans & Rice
with pork
Tecate Mexican Lager

First day in Portland. Eating dinner at the Delta Cafe & Bar.

Zac's famous Vegan Mexican Lasagna

I found the largest beer I've ever seen at Uwajimaya (an amazing asian supermarket). I bought the largest beer I've ever seen. I drank the largest beer I've ever seen. A 54 ounce Hite Lager from Korea. It wasn't very good.

Bloody Mary from Jam on Hawthorne

Also from Jam on Hawthorne...

"The Bizness" with Hash Browns
Essentially, a Breakfast Reuben. "What's that" you say? OK. Take a Reuben. Replace the Saurkraut with a fried egg. There you go. Delicious.

Chicago Dog from Zach's Shack in Southeast Portland

From Voodoo Donut...

I ate a $5 Kobe Beef Hot Dog at the top of the Space Needle. I doubt it was really Kobe Beef. I mean c'mon, who uses kobe beef to make hot dogs?!

Some wacky sushi roll from O'hana (a Polynesian/Hawaiian/Japanese restaurant in Seattle). It had Eel, Imitation Crab, Yellowfin, and a bunch of other stuff all wrapped in cucumber

Also from O'hana...

Loco Moco
White rice topped with a Hamburger Patty, Fried Egg, Brown Gravy, Carmelized Onions and Bacon

Macaroni Salad

Eggs Benedict from the Cyclops Cafe & Lounge

Beecher's© Macaroni & Cheese
(eaten immediately after the Eggs Benedict)

Camping on the way home. This time at Amacher County Park in Southern Oregon.

"Chunky Monkey Oatmeal"
Oatmeal with Dark Chocolate and Banana

Things I should've taken pictures of but didn't...

Defrost Day

I have an old refrigerator... a very old refrigerator. It's the kind where the freezer is inside the rerigerator, the kind that builds up ice crystals and has to be defrosted every once in a while.

I had to put all my perishables in the sink with icepacks to keep them cold while the freezer defrosted. It's a major pain in the ass.

Kang-Ped Bhet-Yang

A few weeks ago I went to the Berkeley Bowl on the hunt for Asian chili powder to make Kim Chi. I never found it but I did find a wheat-gluten based mock duck sold in cans. Weird, huh?
